Sylvia steps down

19th Mar 2008

Members of a Shropshire golf club have said "goodbye" to their club secretary who has retired after two decades in the post.

Sylvia Kenny, of Bayston Hill, has been Club Secretary at Shrewsbury Golf Club, based in Condover, for 20 years.

And the club decided to host a party in her honour which was attended by more than 100 members.

Club Captain John Dodds said: "Sylvia has played a key role in our club for many years, and we are all very sorry to see her go.

"After such dedication and commitment to our club, we were determined to give her a party to remember, and we’re delighted that so many people turned out to wish her well."

Sylvia received gifts and a bouquet in a special presentation from John, and said she was overwhelmed with the support.

"I have spent many years working very closely with the captains and all the members here at Condover, and I’m very proud that the club has gone from strength to strength.

"There are some really exciting challenges ahead for everyone at the club, and I’m looking forward to watching their progress as they continue to grow."

Shrews_Golf_SylviaShrewsbury Golf Club, which can trace its history back to 1891, is an 18-hole parkland course offering a testing round, set against the backdrop of the Shropshire Hills.

It also has a club house, large practice area, and a newly-refurbished pro shop on site.
