Shrewsbury Golf Club has appointed a new Managing Secretary who will be responsible for its day-to-day operation.
David Knight has joined the Condover-based club on a full-time basis, and will oversee the business and administration procedures.
Club Captain, John Dodds, said: “David really has had a baptism of fire when it comes to his new role.
”Not only has he had to learn all about Shrewsbury Golf Club in as short a time as possible, but he’s also had to pull everyone together into a team capable of delivering the service and results the members are looking for.
”Despite a huge number of personnel changes, he has made a very good start, with excellent support from Doreen Burroughs, who is one of the real unsung heroes in our team.
”Her knowledge has been absolutely crucial in helping David to settle in, and we’re sure they will make a dynamic team.”
David said: “We believe it’s important to run the club in a professional and business-like way, to make sure all our members get to relax and enjoy their time here without worrying about administration or other troublesome issues.
”I’m enjoying the challenge of learning as much as I can about the club as quickly as possible, and I’m particularly grateful for the support I’ve received from the team in helping me to get to grips with the role.”
David has joined the club at a time of great transformation, thanks to a programme of major investment.
There has been a period of sweeping changes which have included new faces on the committee, a new professional, John Richards, and state-of-the art course equipment.
Shrewsbury Golf Club can trace its history back to 1891, and is an 18-hole parkland course offering a testing round, set against the backdrop of the Shropshire Hills. It also has a clubhouse, large practice area, and a newly-refurbished pro shop on site.
