Shrewsbury Golf Club has seen another hole-in-one success – this time for one of its senior members
Herb Farrage, of Bayston Hill, was taking part in the Seniors Magee Trophy at the Condover course when he achieved his success on the 212-yard 14th hole, using a three-iron.
“It’s just a great feeling to hit such a sweet shot, and I’m delighted that it was in a competition that qualifies me to enter the Shropshire Star Hole-in-One challenge,” said Herb.
Club Captain John Dodds said the Magee Trophy competition was a huge success, with 70 players taking part.
“Despite the fact we’ve had all kinds of weather in the last few weeks, the greens were in wonderful condition, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed taking part on the day.”
Herb’s success follows three other Shrewsbury members who have scored holes-in-one on the course this summer:
*Paul Richards and Eric Price achieved the excellent result within two days of each other, on the same hole (the 135-yard par 3 sixth hole)
*Lydia Phillips, of Church Stretton, also achieved the feat on the sixth – a par 3, 113-yard hole – while she was taking part in the Ladies’ Captain’s Day club competition.
The result of the Seniors Magee Trophy competition was:
Winners: Brian Peart and Malcolm Fryer with 59 strokes
Second: J Edgington and G Othen with 62 strokes
Third: P Rextrew and C Preece with 64 strokes
Fourth: P Morgan and J Detheridge with 64 strokes
