Junior Academy 2019

Last week we held the last Friday night junior academy evening of the summer.

We have averaged over 20 juniors per week and it is great to see some of these juniors now progressing into the junior section and getting out on to the golf course.

Our Junior Team have progressed well this year and we hope to see some of our junior academy players representing the junior team next year.

Many thanks to our Junior Organiser Graham Evans and all of the volunteers who have helped to make the sessions so successful.

The Sievewright Trophy

The first Sievewright “Sixes” event was played at the Shropshire Golf Club with 16 teams from S&H competing.

Players with a handicap of 18 or less were eligible to play, Shrewsbury Juniors were represented by Oliver Richards and Dan Sherratt

Oliver and Dan progressed through the group stage and qualified for the afternoon knockouts where they beat the Herefordshire 'A' team 4-2 to get to the semi-final where they lost to Shifnal.

The boys halved the 3rd and 4th place match and drew on the playoff hole which resulted in a sudden death nearest the pin which they narrowly lost coming 4th overall.

This was an outstanding performance from our Junior boys playing from 09:00 until 17:30 and displaying some of the best junior golf played this year against really tough opposition.

Oliver & Dan were presented with their 4th prize by Doug Topple, the County President.

Both Oliver and Dan deserve our greatest admiration for representing the club so well.

Eventual winners were the Lin brothers of Telford Golf and Country club, who themselves won the final on a playoff hole. The whole day was accompanied by loud rock music which made for a lively and fun experience and the event was filmed by a company who had a team of photographers, cameramen and a drone overhead to capture the day for the county website.
